About Us

Dr. Janki is a disciple of ‘Padma Vibhushan’ Dr. Prabha Atre of Kirana Gharana. She has explored her music through her Ph.D. on ‘Fusion of Indian Classical and Jazz music’, which got published as a book named ‘Fusion’.

Dr. Janki Mithaiwala founded ‘Antahswar’ in the year 2013 to bring musical awareness in society. Under this organisation, ‘Antahswar Institute of Music’ works for educating students in music.

She is a recipient of Gold medals in Masters as well as Bachelors in music-vocal from the M. S. University of Baroda. Adding to her educational journey, she has done ‘Sangeet Alankar’ from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and ‘Sangeet Visharad’ from Bruhad Gujarat Sangeet Samiti. She is a graded artist and a regular performer of classical and light music of Akashwani AIR. She is one of the key members of MUZITECTURE : music + architecture.

She taught Indian classical vocal music for four years at the M.S. University of Baroda in the department of music (vocal), faculty of performing arts (music College).

Recently she has been declared an awardee of a National Award ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ 2021 in Hindustani vocal by Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi (Central Gov). To add to her laurels, Dr. Janki has been felicitated by Chief Minister of Gujarat Smt. Anandiben Patel at the ‘TanaRiri’ festival at Vadnagar in November 2014. She is awarded ‘Girnar Ratna’ at Girnar Mahotsav , Junagadh in 2022, ‘Surshree’ by Sur Sangam Sansthan, Jaipur; ‘Sangeet Sadhak’ by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy and has been awarded for ‘Special Achievement in the field of art-Music’ by DMRCM (Dinkar Memorial Research Center for Music), Baroda.

She has won the Pt. Omkarnath Thakur competition of Indian Classical Music-vocal (state level competition) by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy; Alfa Gujarati Sa Re Ga Ma (Television show) amongst many.

Dr Janki has composed and presented experimental programs of group classical vocal on themes ‘Shivoham’, ‘Malhaar Yatra’, ‘Shivay Namah’, ‘Hori’, ‘Tarana’, ‘Meera Kabira’, ‘Rang Basant’, etc. Apart from this, she has composed several Bandishes, Taranas, Swarmalikas and Hori in different Ragas i.e. Nat bhairav, Bhairav, Malkauns, Durga, Bageshri, Yaman, Jog, Bhairavi, Khamaj, Des, Kafi etc; many ghazals and light music compositions. She has also composed and recorded promotional songs for ‘MSU PARIVAR’- MSU Reunion 2013.

Her Voice has been recorded for an Art of Living Production ‘Jagat Janani’ and ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ (where her three compositions are featured ), a bhajan CD ‘Anukampa’, title song ‘Marma Bandhatali Theva Hi’ an AIR production, few jingles for private companies, VCD of “Gandhi Katha’ are produced by Gujarat Vidhyapeeth, private projects like ‘Kathak Malhar’, a Bharat Natyam dance production ‘Madhushala’, etc.

She has conducted lecture demonstrations and workshops on ‘ThumriDadra’, ‘Chhota Khayal’, ‘Voice Yoga’, ‘Light Music’ and other various subjects of Indian Music at ‘Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy’ NID, ‘Kalasetu’, ‘Antahswar’ etc. Her papers on varied subjects have been published in seminar souvenirs and magazines.

She has organised Music Festivals to promote Indian classical music where renowned artists shared their music knowledge with students through workshops, and enlightened the listeners by rendering different raags. Young talented artists were invited for the national level competition of Indian classical vocal music. The festival was supported by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Akadami in years 2016 and 2017.

Antahswar Institute of music has organised many of the bethaks, small stage performances for upcoming artists, listening sessions for the students, lec-dems for learning interactive music. More than 80 programs since 2013.

She has developed ‘Antahwar’ music learning Application for the learners and listeners to understand the elements and exploration of music which facilitates the ease of availability at preferred time and place.

She has given several performances of Indian Classical Vocal, Bhajans, Ghazals, Light Music and Experimental Music nationally and internationally.

  • Performed at Talgajarda, Mahua on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti organised by Pujya Murari Bapu on 15 April 2022.
  • Performed in 44th Annual Music Program by ‘Swarankur’ at Dahej (also on fb live) on 29 Dec 2021.
  • Performed in Mahila Sangeet Samaroh at Somnath in Dec 2021, organised by Sangeet Natak Akadami Gujarat.
  • Performed on fb live organised by a few organisations like Art & Soul Foundation, Mumbai; Marathi Mandal South, Bangaluru in 2020, 2021.
  • Performed at Dhrupad Sangeet Sansthan, Bhopal in January 2020.
  • Performed at Saraswati Sangeet Vidyalaya, Vadodara in October 2019.
  • Performed in ‘Omkarnath Sangeet Samaroh’ organised by Sangeet Natak Akadami and Pranav Parijat Trust, at Surat in March 2019.
  • Performed in ‘Aradhana Summer Festival – 2016’ organised by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Academy and Aradhana Sangeet Academy at Ahmedabad in March 2016.
  • Performed in ‘Tanariri’ festival organised by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Akadamy at Vadnagar in November 2014.
